Weekly weigh-in

I had my group tonight and lost another 5 pounds for a total of 58 pounds in 6 weeks.  Hooray!!  However, I have to be honest.  When I got off the scale after weighing in, I actually was disappointed in my loss.  I thought to myself, Why did I only lose 5 pounds?  I actually got back on the scale and weighed myself again.  Then I started blaming myself for drinking so much water today or not drinking enough throughout the week.  Ugh, horrible thinking!  Most people would be grateful for those 5 pounds.  That's when I caught myself and remembered to get a little perspective.  58 pounds in 6 weeks is amazing, so I'll take those 5 pounds with no problem.

When we were in our group, we were talking about our losses.  I told everyone I was down 58 pounds so far and they all clapped for me.  Then when I told my story about being disappointed with 5 pounds, my counselor told me that he has never had a woman in 30 years of his being a counselor in this program lose as fast as I have.  So, essentially, Get over yourself, Kathy!!!  Okay, okay, I'm over it now.  I feel so much better, I even look better.  My clothes are ridiculously big on me when I don't have safety pins holding them onto my body.  Guess I better break out the sewing machine this weekend to start taking things in.  I really am in a grateful place, I can't even stress that enough.  I am 100% committed to this program and I have such an incredible support system.  Really, all my friends, co-workers and family are amazingly supportive.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and I could not do this without them.

I actually go to the same center you do on Monday nights. I am in a class later than you, however. I have been on the product since September 2011. The slow down in weight loss is normal. Your first few weeks you are mostly losing water weight. After about a month, your body adjusts and it is a better indication of what you can expect to lose each week. That being said, there are so many other factors that can affect the weigh-in (did you drink enough/too much water, workouts/muscle gain, etc.) that you can't focus too much on the week to week losses. What is most important is how you feel and how your clothes are fitting. There have been weeks where I didn't really lose anything, but I lost another pants size. Your body is changing rapidly, and that won't always be reflected in the # on the scale. Congratulations! You are doing so well so far. Just stick with it and you will be at your goal before you know it.

Thanks for your encouragement! I didn't realize they had classes scheduled later than mine on Monday's. I have to confess ... I got on the scale this morning after waking up, just curious if it really was just water weight or not. I was 4 pounds lighter overnight so that answers that. I really am over it now, I promise! The scale can make us so crazy, that's for sure. I can tell the difference in my clothes, how I fit in seats, etc. It's much more than the scale ever relays.

After about a month or two on the product, I was so excited about how I fit into "normal" chairs that I would sit in almost every chair I came across just to test it out (Sea World, Office Depot, waiting rooms, etc.) There are definitely a lot of little "victories" that come up very often to help keep you on track. Whenever I started to feel discouraged and wondering if this was something I really wanted to do, I would hit a new milestone, or a new pants size, or something. Keeping track of, and remembering, the little things definitely helps. Also, I think you are doing it right with the pictures. I didn't really do any sort of before/after pictures until after about 4 months. Before that I was really frustrated with what I saw in the mirror. However, after looking at the comparison of the before/after, even though at that point I was only halfway done, was staggering. I cannot believe how much I have changed in such a short time.

Thanks for the reminder to celebrate the little victories, which actually become really huge. I really need to see them because this certainly is not easy!
